
Family Health Center of Battle
Creek has a long and rich
history of providing excellent
health care that is accessible,
comprehensive and available to
everyone in Battle Creek and the
surrounding area.
Our Center was incorporated in
1986 and designated a Federally
Qualified Health Center in 1992.
Being a federally qualified
health center means that the
federal government recognizes
that we meet a high standard of
clinical care, make our services
available to all, regardless of
income and ability to pay, and
are an independent non-profit
corporation governed by a
consumer-dominated Board of
Directors.
We continue to be visionary in
our approach to meeting the
changing needs of our patients

Our Timeline
1986 – We open as North
Avenue Women’s Center
providing
OB/Gyn services.
1990 – We add pediatric
services.
1992 – Our name is
changed to Family Health Center
of Battle Creek. ~ Service
offering includes primary health
care for adults. ~ We are
designated a Federally Qualified
Health Center.

1994 – We add ear, nose,
throat and audiology services.
1997 – Dental health
services begin.

1998 – All services are
moved to our current location at
181 West Emmett Street, Battle
Creek. ~ On-site laboratory and
prescription services are added.
~ Dental health services are
expanded.

1999 – Our staff expands
to include a therapy pet;
“Comfort and Joy” (CJ).
~ OB/Gyn services are
discontinued.
~ We join the Michigan Childhood
Immunization Registry.
~
We add internal
medicine and 24-hour telephone
nurse services.
2000 – We begin offering
Spanish translation and Express
Nurse services. ~ We join
Southern Michigan Diabetes
Outreach Network.
2001 – Open Access
scheduling begins. ~ Behavioral
Health services are added.

2002 – We further expand
our Dental Department.
~ We join 340(b) Federal Drug
Pricing Program.
~ Medication samples
are eliminated. ~ We are
accredited by Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Health Care
Organizations (JCAHO).
2003 – Our Albion site is
opened at 115 Market Place. ~
Endowment fund established.

2004 – We begin
preparations to reinstate OB/Gyn
services.
~ Electronic Health Records (EHR)
planning begins.
~
Reach Out and Read program is
implemented.
~ Dental services
start in Albion.
2005 –
We open Women’s Health (OB/Gyn
services) at temporary location,
16 East Emmett Street. ~
Construction starts
at main site for
Women’s Health addition. ~ First
stages of EHR are implemented.
~ Wireless installation
is complete for EHR conversion.
~ Dental health is expanded in
Albion. ~ Patient Relations Team
is introduced. ~ We are
reaccredited by the Joint
Commission (JCAHO).
2006 – We celebrate our
20th Anniversary. ~ Complementary
and Alternative Medicine is
offered.
~ EHR conversion nears
completion. ~ Women’s Health
addition opens at main site. ~
We are recognized by the Spanish
community with the Cinco de Mayo
award. ~ Therapy pet; “Barnabas”
joins our staff.
2007 - We are designated
as Neighborhood Emergency Help
Center (NEHC). ~ EHR conversion
is complete. ~ We continue
technological upgrades: fiber
ring, Office 2007, employee
intranet and FHC website.
